Description:As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in various facilities. Your role will involve using specialized equipment for cleaning and performing preventive maintenance on it. Additionally, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the security and safety of the premises. Pool Hosts and Cashiers - Part time fill-in positions

Pool Hosts - Applicants must be willing and able to:
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays (15-19 hours per week)
•Work rotating shifts. Salary $14.38 hourly
•Be able to obtain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR
 Certificates - training provided.
•Walking the pools, assisting customers and work outside in all types of weather

•Customer Service, balance cash drawer end of shift and answer phones along with other duties.
•Be able to obtain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR

Job Description: A lifeguard’s job is prevention. Lifeguards are able to caution swimmers and divers regarding unsafe practices and pool rules. A lifeguard is watchful, patient, and mature, and s/he can enforce pool policies in a polite, assertive manner. In addition, s/he will recognize and respond to emergency situations, including rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning, and follow established emergency action procedures. Lifeguards are able to accurately complete incident reports. Will have secondary duties including helping to keep facility clean and performing pool opening and closing duties. Lifeguards will also help in the swimming pool office as needed. Lifeguards will operate slides and may assist with ground keeping duties if interested. The positions are available from mid-May through Labor Day, and shifts are approximately 11am until 8pm. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and utilize emergency response skills.

Requirements: Applicants demonstrate comfort in the deep water and are able to swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke. Within a time limit and without goggles, applicants can retrieve a 10 pound brick from deep water and exit the pool at the edge without using a ladder or stairs. Candidates have a strong swimming kick: able to tread water with head above water and hands in armpits for two minutes. Candidates will be at least 15 years old and hold certificates in first aid, CPR, AED use, and lifeguarding. Lifeguards are able to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when needed.

Compensation: $14.88/hour with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours/week.  As a Lava Hot Springs Foundation employee, a lifeguard is given free entry to the Olympic Swimming Complex and the World-Famous Hot Pools for his or herself, spouse, and dependent children.

*Prerequisite Skills

  • Candidates demonstrate comfort in deep water and are able to swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke (no time limit).
  • Within a time limit of 1 minute 40 seconds and without goggles, candidates can swim 20 yards to retrieve a 10 pound brick from deep water, swim 20 yards on his or her back to the starting point (while holding the brick with both hands and with face above the surface of the water for breathing), and exit the pool at the edge without using a ladder or stairs
  • Candidates are able to tread water for two minutes using only legs (head is kept above water and hands are in armpits).

Other Information

  • Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be certified in CPR, AED use, first aid, oxygen administration, and lifeguard. 
  • Certificates are valid for 2 years.

Returning Staff - Summer Help at Olympic Swimming Complex

If you worked for the Foundation in previous years, left in good standing, and are interested in working for the Foundation the summer, you must…

  • Contact swimming pool office for return staff agreement by March 1st.  If we do not receive the contract by this date, we will assume you do not want to work at the Foundation this summer.
  • Be available to work at least two (or more) of the following holidays or holiday weekends:  Memorial Day, July 4th, Pioneer Day, and Labor Day.
  • LGs:  Attend ONE at least one of the In-Services
  • Be up-to-date in your CPR and/or LG certifications.
